Water Fun free Scrapbook design |

Do you have Adobe Photoshop? I would say photoshop is the best photo editing tools in the market. I simply cant do without it for my design work. Check out the step by step instruction on achieving the effect below.

- Select your favorite water play photo. Open file in photoshop.

- If you have a vertical photo like mine, you need to rotate the photo. Go menu > Image > Rotate Canvas > 90CW
- Now, adjust the colour to a cool tone. Go menu > Image > Adjustments > Photo Filter. You may play around the the settings. In my example, I have used “Cooling Filter (80) & Density as 40%.

- Now under the layer palette, duplicate the “background” layer by dragging into the “new” layer icon. Renamed the new layer as “Hardlight”

- Change the “Hardlight” layer to “Hard Light” mode.

- Under the layer palette, click on the “adjustment layer” icon. A level menu will pop up. In this example, I have adjust the black slider so that the photo appear to be darker.

- Next, you need to downloaded a photoshop brush from DevianTart. This brush was designed by Ca~pris. This brush will be used to create the curly graphic in front of the photo.

- You need to enlarge this Brush as this brush was prepared in 72dpi. In the download package. Open “inframed_02.jpg”. Go menu > Image Size. Unchecked the “Constrain Proportion” first. Key in the exact numbers below. This is the most important step. You need to select “Bicubic Smoother” under resample image. Click ok.

- Now select the photo that have edited in step 6. Go to the layer palette. Select the “more” arrow & click “Flatten Image”

- Select the whole canvas (ctrl + A) . Copy the image. Now paste into the “inframed_02.jpg” that you enlarged in step 8 above.

- You need to duplicate the “Background layer” twice by dragging the layer into the new layer icon. Rename one to “Frame” & the other one to “Frameblur”

- Set both layer to Darken mode. It should now look like the screen below.

- With “FrameBlur” layer selected, Go Menu > Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set radius to 10

- Now I want you to click on the New layer icon to create a new layer. Rename layer as “Softlight” & set layer mode as “Soft Light”. You should noticed the my thumbnail for that layer had some yellow/red/green spot. To create that, you need to select the “brush” Tool. Set Diameter as “600″ & Hardness as “0%”. Start to paint the canvas. Select your desire colour. (hint, you need to select some bright colours as we have changed the layer mode to soft light)

- Now your canvas should look something like this.

- Now I want you to use the Clone Stamp Tool that you learn in Winter Sonata Photo Retouching Tip (Step 5-8) to stamp the water to cover the whole canvas if your photo happens to be vertical.
- With the photo layer selected, Click on the “Add Vector Mask” icon. Use the brush to mask out the areas that you wish to hide.

- Finally, you should get something like this! For adding that wavy text. Stay tune to my blog!

Jolene, GIMP can do this too?
August 3rd, 2007 at 9:15 am
It might be possible. I have installed GIMP & tried using once. I saw some functions are similar to photoshop. But I need some time to adjust as i am very used to photoshop. But nevertheless, photoshop is still the BEST
August 3rd, 2007 at 9:43 am
Jolene, oh ok. Sorry to keep bombing u with so many qn on GIMP. I dun have Adobe Photoshop and if GIMP can have the same function (since it’s free), I can still do complicated designs like urs, which wld be great!!!
