Retouching Studio Play Photos

August 16th, 2007

Congrats to CKFam for winning my personalised scrapbook design. For those who have not won, this posting is your last chance. (this post is still valid because i cant make it before 12am last night)

I shall now reveal how I retouch those studio shots below. :)

  1. Open your favorite shot in Photoshop.
  2. All baby/children’s faces are not perfect. You need to smoothen the faces like your wedding studio shots, remember? :). I have magnified the photo so that I can see my Joy’s face clearer. I have set mine to 50% (Depending on your photo resolution). Choose the Clone Stamp Tool (S) . retouch04_01.jpg
  3. Choose “90″ as brush size (based on pix size) & “0″ for hardness retouch04_02.jpg
  4. Remember to uncheck the “Aligned” box at the menu. This means that you do not want to align the sampled pixels.
    retouch04_03.jpg
  5. The Clone Stamp tool takes a sample of an image, which you can then apply over another image or part of the same image. I have taught this Stamp Tool in my Winter Sonata Tutorial (Step 5-11)
  6. I have selected 40% for the opacity of the stamp tool
  7. Alt+Click on the face to sample the starting point. Then click on the areas you wish to smoothen. You can continue to use the sampled pixels from the initial sampling point each time you stop and resume painting.

  8. Continue to stop & resume painting until you see all the areas is smoothen out. You may wish to resample the starting point by repeating step 7 until you get this. Continue to repeat step 7-8 until the whole face is smooth & perfect.

  9. Now select Lasso tool. Create a rough selection of your baby by drawing with the lasso tool.
    retouch04_06.jpg
  10. Go Menu > Select > Feather to soften the selection by “100″ pixel
  11. Duplicate your baby selection by clicking Control +J. This is how your layer should look like.
    retouch04_07.jpg
  12. Now select “background” layer. Apply Filter > blur > Radius Blur. Use the below amount & blur method.

  13. Finally, you should get this. Seriously, do you think you still need to visit those photo studio & pay them a few hundred to thousand dollars for their services? For me, I spend none at all!!
